Will Health Care Reform Affect The Franchise Industry? The Debate Continues

Health care

The Health Care Reform debate continues to rage on. As it should. Our new President is following through with one of his promises. His timing may not be the best, as our current unemployment numbers are higher than they have been since 1983. Are people thinking about health care reform, or are they thinking about;

A. Getting a new job

B. Losing their current one

I am even more curious about the general feelings among small business owners, but since this is a franchise blog, let's focus on the feelings of local franchise owners.

Before I send you over to a recent article I wrote on this very topic, I'd like to share what Nathan Hegedus, a writer over at the left-leaning, and very powerful site, The Huffington Post, said;

"The American tradition of community is about the government lending
a helping hand in the Depression and the nation sacrificing almost
everything in the depths of World War II. It is about the spirit of the
1960s, maybe America's greatest moment of communal expression, if not
action. Just because the baby boomers lost their momentum and nerve
does not taint that spirit."

He then goes on to say that "We do better when we take care of our brother. It is both a practical and moral imperative, not to mention an economic one."

I wanted to point that out before you start going off into a "Socialist Government" rant, which is a fairly popular thing to do these days. One more thing. Hegedus lives in Sweden. {So, Joel, why is that important?}

Look at how Sweden's health care system is ranked.

His article is here.

I am not leaning one way or the other yet. I am just saying.

I just wrote my monthly column over at OPEN Forum By American Express, and you guessed it, it has to do with health care reform. It also has to do with what's real, and what isn't. From the article;

"In
the 24/7 news and information world we live in, it is sometimes hard to
figure out what the real deal is on big issues like health care reform.
Our two-party political system provides for
colorful commentary, occasional town hall yelling, and even an op-ed from our President."

Please read the article, and let me know your feelings {Don't hold back}concerning this incredibly important topic.

If you liked this post, maybe I should be writing more op-ed pieces. Or maybe not. Wait-I have an idea. Chime in and tell me what types of article you would like to see. It will take you no more than 20-30 seconds. Thank you!

{By the way, you are more than welcome to link to this article on your own blogs and websites. You can pass this article around to franchise and small business owners, too!}
