The Solar Energy Business Is Going Retail

Can you imagine the day that you’ll be able to hop into your hybrid car, and drive right down the street to your local solar energy/renewable energy business to buy solar panels for your home?

If Dave Bonta has his way, that time is a lot closer than you think. What’s the matter? You don’t think that there’s actually going to be retail solar energy/renewable energy store opening near you in the future?

You’re probably right. After all, why would you want to believe someone who hasn’t paid an electric bill in 12 years?
Part of the reason that green entrepreneur, Dave Bonta, is so confident that his chain of USA Solar Stores is going to grow at an even more rapid clip that they already have, is because of this;

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Enacted last February, it removed the old cap on small-scale solar hot water and photovoltaic (solar electric) tax credits, and made residential-sized renewable energy systems more affordable than ever.

Now homeowners can take advantage of the same credit as businesses get, potentially resulting in thousands of dollars in savings,” Dave Bonta said.

Of course, Dave’s business was started way before incentives like that were announced. Dave told me that, “the incentives are the icing on the cake. The great thing about USA Solar Stores is that we show people how to do solar living without incentives. That’s the key. How many other business’s involved in solar energy today would still be standing if incentives were taken away?”

Here are three hot facts about solar energy;

  • More than 10,000 homes in the United States are powered entirely by solar energy
  • Most homes can produce most of the power they need and cut at least 50% off their utility bill
  • Enough sunlight falls on the earth’s surface every hour to meet world energy demand for an entire year

It’s not a franchise

A USA Solar Store is kind of like your local neighborhood hardware store, except they sell renewable energy items. They sell things like solar panels, wind turbines, super-efficient appliances and a plethora of serious energy saving gadgets.

The USA Solar Store is not a franchise business. That means that there are no ongoing royalty fees. It’s a business opportunity, and the one-time license fee is currently $75,000-done in 3 payments, drawn like a construction loan, stepped to deliverables.

Here’s added bonus; you can pick the name of your store.

Store owners get a proven business model (9 years strong), inventory, training, ongoing support, easy entry into very lucrative renewable energy market potential and a fantastic collaborative brain trust of positive people.

Speaking of positive (and enthusiastic) people, Dave Bonta also co-authored a book titled, “The New Solar Home,” with Stephen Snyder.

Popular Reasons For Buying a Franchise (Part 7)

In this franchise business article series, I've explored several popular reasons that people buy franchises.

Most folks that buy franchises want to make a pretty big change in their lives, bring in a nice income, (at least in step with what they're used to making) and build some equity.

In Part 6 of this series, I discussed (via video) a reason that lots of people have, but one that isn't top of mind-at first; building a legacy.

In the final part of this franchise business series on "Popular Reasons For Buying a Franchise," I'm going to share a popular reason that a smaller percentage of folks buy franchises. This reason has to do with the demographic of the folks that are considering franchise ownership.

Solar Universe Franchise Owner Discusses The Benefits Of Solar Power

(Disclosure; I do content marketing for Solar Universe.)

To most of us, the concept of using solar power to provide energy to our homes and businesses is pretty foreign. It’s a pretty new technology, and a lot is still being “worked out.” There are even “solar franchises.”

Domenic Gentile, a Solar Universe franchisee, does a nice job of explaining the costs and benefits of using solar power in this video from Reno’s, “The House Detective,” television show.

Here’s a post I did in May, with some updates aboutSolar Universe, and it’s steady growth.

Green Franchise Update; Burger King Unveils A Green Restaurant Design

Green Burger King Germany

The Burger King Corporation seems to be on the cutting edge of green technology, with the unveiling of its new energy efficient BURGER KING® restaurant located in Waghäusel, Germany. The eco-friendly design developed in cooperation with Wirsol Solar AG (Baden-Württemberg) utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and renewable energy to power one-third of the restaurant’s energy consumption, thus reducing energy costs by 45 percent and the emission of CO2 by more than 1201 metric tons every year.

A Green Franchise

This free-standing restaurant features the BURGER KING® 20/20 restaurant image of the future, which incorporates a variety of innovative and contemporary elements including materials resembling corrugated metal, brick and concrete. The 20/20 design takes the brand’s signature flame-broiling core attribute a step further by creating an exceptional and memorable dining environment.

I wonder how long until the US gets one of these great looking, and environmentally-friendly restaurants?

There’s a smattering of green franchises in the US, and we need more!

If you are offering a green franchise opportunity, you may be in a really good place right now. I may be, also. Let's get the word out, together!

I happen to own a niche website that's starting to get quite popular….

I launched The Green Franchise Directory in June of 2008, after I started to notice that more and more people were really starting to get interested in environmentally friendly businesses. (It was actually the 1st website solely devoted to green franchises. I know, I'm just sooo cutting edge.)

Since then, several green franchises have been launched, (Some have even become advertisers on the Green Franchise Directory) with many more on the way. How do I know? Because they are starting to reach out to me. They want me to help them tell their stories. Stay tuned.

Are you starting to get interested in green franchise opportunities, too?

Would you invest your money in one?

Solar Franchise Update

When I present seminars on franchise ownership,

1:19 Joel Libava, WTAM 1100 AM Seminar Interview

the topic of green franchise offerings always comes up. Always. During every seminar.

I always mention solar franchises, and when I do, I ask the attendees if they really think it’s possible to “franchise” the sun. They laugh, and I explain that there are a couple of companies that are actually doing it. Well, there’s one. There were two. The one that is doing so successfully is Solar Universe, out of California. You can learn specifics about them in this article.

Solar Universe is now up to 10 franchises. They seem to be doing things right. It probably helps that a member of their franchise development team is from 1-800-Got-Junk, a very successful, and at the time of their offering, cutting edge franchise concept.

The other solar franchise has decided to switch to a non-franchise model. Solar Universe is probably happy about that.

Here comes the sun.

(Full Disclosure; I work with Solar Universe in a marketing capacity, helping them find terrific franchise owners.)

Green Franchise Information On Work.com

Istock_000001848151xsmall

One of the websites that I contribute to is Work.com, and I was recently asked to write a short article about Green Franchises.

This year, more than ever, the word Green is being used in small business circles, and this includes the world of franchising. My hope is that the franchisors use the word Green, carefully. Having a Green focused company is wonderful, but it does have to include more than changing old fashioned light bulbs to the newer and more efficient and eco-friendly compact fluorescents.

Please read my article on Green Franchises, and if you like it, and it’s simplicity, please rate it. {You will see the rating tool.}Thank you and enjoy!

Solar Panel Franchises. My Servers Are Overloaded!

Istock_000001870140xsmall Ok! OK! OK!!
I get it! Gas prices are over $4.00. My wife just put 11 gallons in her Mitsubishi Galant, and it cost $50. She came home, and proceeded to throw up!

Does my wife's aggravation have anything to do with the uptick in folks clicking my "Solar Panel Franchises" articles from the past year? Is it a coincidence? Is it President Bush? Does his announcement that he wants to start more offshore drilling of oil have anything to do with today's interest in Solar Panel Franchises? I have no idea. Is Solar Energy our answer? Please let me know in the comment area! I want to know!!!
